This two CD pack comprises talks and guided
exercises by clinical hypnotherapist David Botsford. He speaks against a background of baroque
music played by the Hypnotic Orchestra. Botsford aims to enable listeners to
free themselves of physical pain by encouraging states of deep relaxation.
He maintains that we take control of the physical pain we feel by hypnosis techniques, he claims 'the listener can enter a trance state,
communicate with the unconscious, and develop a solution'.
I soon found myself warming to Botsford's steady rhythmic tone. I was impressed by the range and power of the imagery and techniques used in the
exercises. I liked the exercise in which Botsford asks us to focus on the
part of our body that feels most pain-free, and then to become aware of the
feeling of relaxation spreading to other parts of the body. I experienced a
definite lessening of the discomfort in my hip. Given that I have listened to both CDs - a total of two hours and 36
minutes playing time - only once, I think it is difficult to assess just how
beneficial a CD like this can be for pain relief. I have not, as yet, found
a solution for my pain. However, Botsford does suggest that the more we
listen to the tapes and practice the techniques, the more we will experience
the benefits. At the same time, in the accompanying brochure he strongly
recommends 'that the listener seek professional medical advice about any
condition from which he or she is suffering before using this CD set'.
My verdict - this is relaxing, and can induce a positive frame of mind.
Yes, I would buy it.
