David Botsford's comments on the book
At last there is a single volume which can turn the reader into a stage hypnotist, if he reads it diligently and persistently works with it.
All the previous books on stage hypnosis have contained good and useful information, but The Ronning Guide to Modern Stage Hypnosis has the distinction of being a complete course in itself. It keeps theory and superfluous material to a minimum, and contains a wealth of practical exercises which are remarkable in their ability to teach subtleties such as getting volunteers up on stage and ensuring they enter a satisfactory trance - two of the most challenging aspects of the art of stage hypnosis.
There is useful information on everything from staging and sound to how to get your first gigs. The solid material in the main section of the book is lightened with entertaining stories about the author's stage hypnosis career. Significantly, the book describes the realities of performing a show to today's audiences, a very different market from fifty or even thirty years ago. A fascinating - and inspiring - part of the book is the essays by guest expert contributors (I'm talking about others than my own), which describe how individuals with very different life experiences got involved in stage hypnosis, the challenges they have overcome in their careers, and their invaluable advice to the reader. The book is also produced to a high standard of printing and binding, and is the equal in technical quality of any from a major publisher. In short, the Ronning Guide is destined to become the standard book on the subject, probably for decades to come.

There is just one thing that really does need to be fixed for future editions (of which there will doubtless be many). The text contains a regrettably large number of typographical errors, misspellings and incorrect usage of words (e.g., "to" instead of "too", "where" instead of "were," and "there" instead "their"). This makes it a little difficult to read and the meaning unclear in some passages, as well as being a distraction from such an otherwise fine book. It really needs to have a copy editor go through it and make all the corrections. (I'd be willing to do this if you wanted me to - it would be one way of being sure that I thoroughly absorb all the material in the book!) Once that is done, the book will be, quite simply, impossible to fault, and in all respects a masterpiece.

Many congratulations.
